Trip Collins
Attorney Trip Collins founded the Law Office of Trip Collins, LLC in Gwinnett County in 1998. His hope in doing so was to establish a law practice focused on building constructive relationships with clients through one-on-one dealings, straightforward communication, and a track record of successful representation. Critical to fulfilling the promise of that focus has been Attorney Collins’ thoughtful objectivity in legal analysis, his careful attention to detail in case preparation, and his courteous professionalism in championing each client’s cause. Through his efforts over the years, he has become at the local courthouse not only a familiar face, but, more importantly, a welcome one. He uses his knowledge of the Gwinnett justice system and his rapport with its players to streamline his efforts on behalf of his clients, maximizing the effectiveness of the time he puts into their cases.
Attorney Collins began his professional career in the law in 1998, shortly after graduating with honor from the prestigious University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Georgia, and passing the Georgia Bar exam. It was at UGA that he cut his teeth as a litigator, serving as an intern/paralegal and third year practitioner at the UGA Legal Aid and Public Defender Clinic. There, under the supervision of seasoned, veteran criminal defense attorneys, serving clients in actual cases, Attorney Collins gained invaluable experience defending people accused of crimes, both felonies and misdemeanors, against the power of the State. It was in those courtrooms in Athens that he recognized within him a heart-felt passion for upholding the rights of the accused – demanding that the government, in seeking to imprison one of its subjects, prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, by lawfully-obtained evidence, without taking any shortcuts.
Over the past decade, Attorney Collins has represented hundreds upon hundreds of clients, mostly in criminal cases, involving charges ranging from the most petty of traffic offenses to some of the most egregious of felonies, including such things as aggravated assault and armed robbery. He has handled and presented cases, to judges and juries, in the trial courts and on appeal, throughout the northeast metropolitan Atlanta area, including in the counties of Gwinnett, Barrow, Jackson, Hall, Banks, DeKalb, Fulton, Walton, White, Clarke, and Oconee.
Attorney Collins is a licensed member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia. He is admitted to practice in the courts of law and equity throughout the State of Georgia, as well as the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Georgia Supreme Court. He has, via CLE, undertaken and completed study and training in various aspects of criminal investigation, examination of expert witnesses (including law enforcement officers), case preparation and presentation, and defense of capital (i.e., death penalty) cases.
When Attorney Collins is not serving his clients, he is serving his community. He has volunteered his time and talents as a technical advisor to the Boy Scouts of America Law & Government Explorers post in Gwinnett; as a coach to the North Gwinnett High School Mock Trial team; and as an evaluator/judge at mock trial and moot court competitions in Gwinnett County and in Atlanta. He also enjoys helping out at Gwinnett’s annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day event.
